Landscape Architectural Designer needed in New York, NY:  The Landscape Architectural Designer for award-winning international urban and landscape design firm, Balmori Associates, is involved in the coordination of landscape design and environmental solution projects in the U.S., South America and parts of Europe, under the supervision of the licensed Landscape Architect/Partner.  Main worksite is located at 1133 Broadway Suite 221, New York, NY 10010.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct Research:

    • Review new projects’ scope of work and client requirements and conduct research including: site conditions such as context and location, history of project’s site, local ecological conditions or environmental issues; photograph existing conditions; coordinate site surveys; collect information from any existing site drawings; analyze code requirements for project site such as zoning and permitting restrictions; assist the horticulturist in identifying existing plant species;

    • Materials & Plants:  Identify and select appropriate sustainable materials for use in landscape design, focusing on innovative materials that can change the perception of space; procure samples of those materials; research new technologies, focusing on innovations in the field of energy efficiency and ecology; research and identify local and native plants to incorporate in the landscape design;

  • Prepare site plans and analysis for environmental solution reports to be reviewed by the Principal;

  • Work closely with the project manager, the design team, and architectural/engineering and multi-disciplinary firms along with the client to develop and implement design concepts based on aesthetic direction and the documentation of concepts in model form.   

  • Coordination of landscape design and environmental solution projects in the U.S., South America, and parts of Europe as directed by the Principal;

  • Travel 1x/month for 2 days/trip to present to clients in the U.S., South America, or Parts of Europe as Covid permits;

Minimum Requirements:

Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture, Architecture, or Urban Design or foreign equivalent degree;

Special Requirements:

In-Depth knowledge of lean construction principles & construction administration; strong skills in the following architectural design software: Rhinoceros, Adobe Suite & AutoCad software for design professionals, Grasshopper; Domestic or International Travel to South America or Parts of Europe Required, 1x/mo for 2 Days/trip as Covid permits;
